Boosting Water Resilience for Farmers in Norfolk

Axion Solutions has been selected by the Environment Agency to deliver a Local Resource Option (LRO) Screening Study in the Mid-Wissey catchment, between Swaffham and Thetford. Working with a group of seven farms and one horticultural nursery, the project will explore practical, farmer-led solutions to strengthen local water resilience — from on-farm storage reservoirs and water sharing to recycling, efficiency, and managed aquifer recharge.

Over the next four months, we’ll carry out data analysis, workshops, and detailed evaluations to identify the top three most viable options, including a pre-selected water-sharing scheme. The study will provide farmers and the Environment Agency with a clear, evidence-based roadmap for safeguarding irrigation, supporting food production, and reducing environmental pressures in one of Norfolk’s most important agricultural regions.

Tracking Change in England’s Green Infrastructure

Axion Solutions has been commissioned to deliver the first Change Detection Reporting Exercise for Natural England’s Green Infrastructure Mapping Database. This project will analyse data from three versions of the database, covering a five-year period, to identify how England’s green and blue spaces have changed — from parks and accessible greenspace to watersides and protected landscapes.

By combining statistical analysis with detailed assessments of change at the local level, we’ll uncover whether shifts in the data reflect genuine land use change, reclassification, or improvements in data quality. This work will provide Natural England with a clear baseline for future monitoring, ensuring that policies and investment in green infrastructure are grounded in robust, evidence-based insights.

Tackling Invasive Species in Derry & Strabane’s Green Spaces

We’re excited to be working with Derry City and Strabane District Council on a major project to help protect and restore some of Northern Ireland’s most valued green spaces.

Invasive species like Japanese knotweed and Himalayan balsam are quietly reshaping our landscapes - pushing out native plants, damaging habitats, and threatening biodiversity. Axion Solutions has been commissioned to carry out a district-wide survey of parks, greenways, and open spaces, identifying where these species are taking hold and helping the Council build a clear plan for action.

This project is a vital step in safeguarding local nature and ensuring these outdoor spaces remain vibrant, accessible, and resilient for years to come.
